According to Rolling Stone, citing a news release from the Los Angeles Police Department, LAPD officers were searching for three misdemeanor hit-and-run suspects when they entered a residential area. It was at this point that they encountered the wife of Weezer bassist Scott Shriner, a woman named Jillian Lauren — who greeted the officers with a handgun.

Despite multiple commands to drop her handgun, Shriner allegedly pointed the weapon at the officers, which resulted in a shootout. Shriner was struck and retreated into her home, but was later arrested and taken to the hospital.
